Opening of the Turin International Summer School 2009
Participants from twenty different countries will attend an innovative training course on migration
Turin, 28 September 2009. Turin is the first city in the world hosting a training course, jointly organized by institutions of both the United Nations and the European Union, focusing on the contemporary theme of the international migrations.
The Turin International Summer School 2009 on migration will be inaugurated 28 September at 10:00 a.m., in the pavilion P3. It will provide the participants, coming from twenty different countries from all continents, with the opportunity to explore in depth a wide range of themes related to international migrations.
The training course is organized by international organizations based in Turin, namely the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITCILO), the European Training Foundation (ETF), along with the University of Turin's Faculty of Law, the European University Institute (IUSE) in cooperation with the International and European Forum of Migration Research (FIERI) and with the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo.
The inaugural lecture will be held by Ambassador Maurizio Moreno. University professors, experts and officials from a variety of countries will analyse and discuss with the participants the social, economic and legal aspect related to migration.
In a city like Turin, where immigrants compose 11% of the population, a brand new school is thus starting, thanks to the synergies between Universities and international organizations.
The training course, which confirms Turin as the capital of international training, will be held at the United Nations Campus and at Villa Gualino from 28 September to 9 October 2009.
